Session: Mobile Application Security and Mobile Security Applications: Sticks and Carrots
Presenter: Craig Heath, Franklin Heath
Time: 12:15 – 13:15, Friday 30 September
In some ways, security is a cost or tax on application development that we would prefer not to pay, but on the other hand mobile platforms provide some unique opportunities for enhancing the the security and privacy of users in meaningful ways.
This session will first cover the “sticks” – what are the security hurdles that mobile application developers have to deal with – and then the “carrots” – what opportunities do we have to use mobile security to empower consumers and help them keep control of their personal information.
Co-author of the Open Group’s “Security Design Patterns” technical guide, and lead author of the book “Symbian OS Platform Security”, Craig has been working in Information Systems Security since 1988; initially on UNIX systems, then on Enterprise Java and, since 2002, focusing on mobile device platforms including a spell as Chief Security Technologist at the Symbian Foundation. He is now providing independent consultancy on mobile security matters.
