Premium Sponsor – OMTP-BONDI

OMTP BONDI

OMTP BONDI

The BONDI initiative was created by OMTP in 2008 with the prime aim of enabling web applications with some of the great features of the mobile device. Within a six month period, the initiative which is supported by many of the world’s largest operators, created not only the specifications which described the necessary interfaces, but also a reference implementation which could be used to test and demonstrate the types of applications which would become possible with BONDI.

BONDI provides a set of JavaScript interfaces for features such as messaging, contacts, calendar, device status, camera and location. It also provides the security which is essential in ensuring the protection of a user from malicious web applications or widgets. It is the consistency of these interfaces which, in conjunction with existing interfaces specified in W3C, will ensure that the evolution of web 2.0 applications will be as painless as possible for the existing as well as new developers.

By the use of existing technologies and an ongoing drive to take BONDI into the W3C standardization process, OMTP and its members are taking the necessary steps in achieving a real cross platform execution environment. The provision of the BONDI interfaces and security on the mobile devices coming to market in 2010 and 2011 will ensure that web developers have a real alternative to creating separate native applications for different devices.

The OMTP sponsorship of Over the Air has been made possible by the close association of Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom AG, O2 Litmus and Perfecto Mobile who have co-funded the event.
